| Description | Containing monthly meteorological observations January 1839-December 1840. With columns for barometer readings in English inches: highest, lowest, mean, and greatest daily variations in rise and fall. With rainfall in inches: monthly, greatest daily and number of rainy days. Thermometer readings in fahrenheit: highest, lowest, mean and greatest daily variation by rise and fall. Concluding with 'Days the wind blew', totals based upon wind direction. All columns are totalled, but there are no barometer or rainfall readings January-September 1839, noted as 'Not observed'.
Headed: 'General Results of Meteorological Observations at Constantinople. by J. W. Redhouse Esqre. Communicated by John Davy M.D. F.R.S.' There are notes on the circumstances of the observations, and instrument type and placement: 'N.B. The barometer is notes as observed, without being corrected for heat or for elevation above the sea, which is about two hundred feet. My instruments are of the ordinary description, by Watkins & Hill of Charing Cross, and not constructed expressly for observation. Hours of observation 8a.m. & 2 & 12 p.m. Aspect of the thermometer north westerly. Barometer placed in an open hall. Rain gauge about twenty feet from the ground.' Signed by J.W. Redhouse.
