TitleMeteorological observations at Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, by Joseph Higgs
CreatorHiggs; Joseph (fl.1830s-1840s); British harbour master
Date1 March-31 August 1840
DescriptionDaily meteorological records, kept on printed sheets. These record the hour of observations (at two hourly intervals), barometer in inches and decimals, thermometer, winds, quarter and strength, weather, rain in inches, and general remarks. The number of manuscript entries for the barometer and thermometer becomes more consistent in this volume, usually seven entries per day, between 6.00am and 6.00pm. Generally, there are more records of wind direction and strength. From 16 August 1840, there are no temperature observations: a note on p.85 states 'Thermometer broke'.
