Description | Daily meteorological observations taken at several times during each day, varying from two to five instrument readings. The printed sheets have columns for hour of the day, barometer in inches, thermometer in degrees, maximum and minimum temperatures of the 24 hour periods, wind quarter and strength, weather and general remarks.
The general remarks are sparse, but contain notes on the aurora borealis and news of unusual weather, including on 16 April 1842: 'A great many vessels arrived 2 or 3 from Scotland, some of them had been 10 days in the Ice, which was reported to be very heavy & extending far to the Southward'.
