DescriptionObservations of magnetic dip made using Lloyd's needles nos. A1 and A2 at the 'Shed near Observatory'. Columns for marked ends, limb, needle direct and reversed north and south, with sums and means. Entries from p.18 onward are not dated, and have the note: 'The object of these observations has been to try the correctness of the cylindrical form...but unfortunately the instrument got changed and put into a new position before the observations had been proceeded with...'.

Inscribed in pencil [p.1]: 'No.1 Oct. 1843' and in ink 'via Southampton 11 May /44'. Signed [p.25] by C.M. Elliot.
