DescriptionDaily meteorological observations made at Karachi, Pakistan [then India] at the hospital of the 4th, then the 51st Regiments. Readings taken at 9.30am and 3.30pm. Columns for: Moon's age, day of the week, and day of the month; barometer; hygrometer, wind and cloud; dry and wet bulb self-registering thermometers; rainfall and wind; concluding with columns for prevalent diseases, natural history [not completed] and general weather remarks. With maximums, minimums and means. An additional column has been added for temperature of dew point computed by Apjohn's formula.

Each sheet is headed 'No. 1 Meteorological Observatory at the Hospital of...' changing from H.M 4th Regiment [January] to 51st Regiment [February onward]. Inscribed 'Observations made by C. Richtern [?] 1st B.E. Reg. Fusiliers' [1st Batallion European Regiment of Fusiliers]. Variously signed and endorsed including by the Regimental Assistant Surgeons, J. Ekin, H. March Webb, and Vere Webb; also by the Superintending Surgeon C. T. Collier [?]. Inscribed verso with similar details. Typed paper label [p.24]: 'Kurrachee. Daily met obs, 1858.'.
