DescriptionJournal of aurorae [aurora australis] observations made at Winter Quarters, McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, including sketches of the phenomena, and pasted in or inserted charts, 'Printed at the Office of the "South Polar Times" '. Later [1904] observations were made 'at sea'. The volume commences with a typescript of Bernacchi's introduction to the published expedition account, headed 'Introductory statement on the observations of Aurora'. The text of the whole journal corresponds with that used in the publication: 'National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904. Physical observations with discussions by various authors. Prepared under the superintendence of the Royal Society (London, Royal Society, 1908). Section IV, Antarctic observations of aurora 1902-1903. Introduction by L.C. Bernacchi'. The additional sketches and charts are not present in the printed account.
