DescriptionHourly observations made aboard HMS Sulphur, at Sitka, Norfolk Sound, Alaska [formerly Russia, now United States of America], commencing at 10.00am on 21 September and concluding at 1.00pm on 26 September. Columns for date and time, barometers (designated N.101, N.102 and Cary), air and sea temperatures, with three thermometer readings (designated 358, 357 and 312, the latter two buried), pluviometer and hygrometer. The manuscript concludes with a small table of comparison between thermometers above and below ground.

Inscribed [p.1]: 'Meteorological Observations Norfolk Sound, September 21st 1837', with the 'E.B.' monogram of Edward Belcher.
