Description | Asks Stokes to bring the enclosed letter to the attention of the Council of the Royal Society. The letter was received by Christie from the President and Secretary of the Comité international des poids et mesures, protesting 'against the withdrawal of this country from the Convention du Mètre [The Metre Convention or Treaty of the Metre]. Christie intends to the Treasury 'independently' regarding this. Refers to the question of withdrawal from the Association Géodésique. General [Richard] Strachey remarks on the Treasury's consideration.
Enclosed is a copy of a letter from William Mahoney Christie to the Secretary of the Treasury, dated 29 June 1887, consisting of 13 pages, regarding the metrical standards. Enclosed is a copy of a letter from the President and Secretary of the Comité international des poids et mesures, dated 15 April 1887, in French, consisting of six pages. |
