TitleLetter from George [Robert Milne] Murray, British Museum (Natural History), Cromwell Road, London, to The Royal Society
CreatorMurray; George Robert Milne (1858 - 1911)
Date17 May 1898
DescriptionApplication to th Royal Society in connection with a scheme of the intermediate depths of the ocean. Murray identifies limitations and scarcity of current observations and proposes to make further, more careful observations, from a cargo-boat which may be stopped for periods sufficient for the such observations to be made. Murray also intends to carry out observations of surface organisms, paying special attention to points of importance that have arisen from his collaborative work with Mr [Vernon Herbert] Blackman at the Phyto-Plankton, including the study of the cell structure of the Peridimeae, raised by Dr [Edwin Ray] Lankester. Further suggestions made by Dr John Murray include the study of yellow symbiotic cells of Globigerina, which he recorded but did not study. Murray outlines the resources needed and estimates costs.
