Title | Letter from [William Thomas] Blanford, 72 Bedford Gardens, Campden Hill, London, to Mr Harrison, The Royal Society |
Creator | Blanford; William Thomas (1832 - 1905) |
Date | 15 January 1898 |
Description | Expresses difficulty in offering an opinion on the grant sought by Major Gibbons for an expedition, as he has little information on the matter. States that he can see great merit in the exploration of the country between the upper Zanzibar and Congo, and that such an expedition is more interesting and urgent than the exploraition of Bolivia. Having received financial aid from the Royal Geographical Society and others, further strenghtens the importance attached to the expedition, although Blanford feels there could also be political motives for granting funding.
States that the Royal Society Council have more evidence than he does and that he would require more time to fully acquaint himself with the matter before he is able to offer a more detailed opinion. |
