Title | Letter from Clement Lindley Wragge, Meteorology of Australia Chief Weather Bureau, Queensland, Brisbane, to [Joseph Lister] President of the Royal Society |
Creator | Wragge; Clement Lindley (1852-1922) |
Date | 15 April 1897 |
Description | Has made best efforts to maintain the Tasmanian meteorological service and the tentative observatory he set up at Wellington. Informs that the Tasmanian government do not recognise the importance of the observations being maintained. Identifies that observations from forthcoming antarctic expeditions will lose value without adequate readings also from Australia, for comparative study. Asks the Royal Society to interview Sir Edward Braddon, Premier of Tasmania, who will be in the United Kingdom for the Record Reign Celebrations, on the matter. Emphasises the neccessary role learned societies should have in bringing to prominence the importance of weather recording in Australia and the Southern regions, in general. |
