Description | Informs of his work to record, in as complete a manner as possible, the freshwater fish and fauna of Africa. Has been able to obtain support from the Egyptian Government for the Nile fishes, and from the Congo Free State for investigation of the Congo Basin, and expects to work out the naturalia which Mr Moore will collect in the Grant Lakes of Central Africa. Informs he is hampered in his work by lack of material from the Senegal River, the fishes of which remain unreported in the UK collections. Mr [Peter Lutley] Sclater and other scientists, aware of the importance of filling this gap in knowledge, advised him to apply to the Royal Society for a grant to help towards the expendses of sending out a collector to Senegal in the autumn. |
