DescriptionThe Foreign Office conveys a message from the Marquess of Salisbury to the Royal Society. Provides a copy [enclosure present] of a despatch from Her Majesty's Agent and Consul General in Bulgaria, discussing the adoption of the Gregorian Calendar among Orthodox Greek states, initiated by Monsignor Tondini de Quarenghi from the Bologna Academy of Science. Includes an enclosed lecture [enclosure present] delivered by Monsignor Tondini on the topic. Lord Salisbury has sent copies of relevant Acts of Parliament from 1752, which changed the calendar in England, and notifications from Japan in 1873, when the Gregorian Calendar was introduced there, in response to Monsignor Tondini's request.
