Title | Letter from [Silvanus Phillips] Thompson, Morland, Cheslett Road, West Hampstead, London, to Arthur [William] Rücker, The Royal Society |
Creator | Thompson; Silvanus Phillips (1851 - 1916); physicist and electrical engineer |
Date | 6 October 1897 |
Description | Informs that Signor G Colombo, President of Associazione Electrotecnica Italiana, requested his consent to join the Ferraris Memorial Committee, commemorating Galileo Ferraris (1847-1897), which he obliged. Surprised to see the Society named in the circular, and feels Colombo has 'taken the liberty' to name the Royal Society. Observes he had not done this for other institutions. Believes the Society is placed in a difficult position as Ferraris was not a Fellow or medallist. Suggests the Society keeps silent on the matter and allows him and [Sir William Henry] Preece to approach Colombo. |
