Description'Sir, I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to transmit herewith, for the infromation of your Sleeping Sickness [African trypanosomiasis] Committee, copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Commissioner in East Africa respecting the claims of a certain Mr Engelbracht to be able to exterminate the tsetse fly. Lord Lansdowne would be grateful for any observations which your committee may have to offer on Sir D Stewart's despatch. I am, Sir, Your most obedient, humble Servant, Clement L Hill'.

Enclosed is a typescript copy of a letter from D Stewart, Commissioner's Office, Mombasa, to the Marquess of Lansdowne, dated 26 October 1904, sending copies of correspondence between Principal Veterinary Officer, Mr Flemmer, and Dr Greig and Dr Ross regarding 'the claims' of Mr Egelbracht 'to exterminate the Tsetse fly'. Includes a copy of a letter from E D W Greig, Entebbe to Mr Stordy, dated 22 September 1904.

Enclosed is a telegram from Dr Ross Makindu to Mr R J Stordy, Nairobi dated 17 October 1904: 'As far as known would abolish trypanosomiasis but no experiments have been done with other biting flies'.

Another telegram enclosed from Captain Greig to Mr R J Stordy dated 20 October 1904: 'The result of absolute extermination of glosina palpalis would be that sleeping sickness would cease to spread'.

Enclosed is a letter from R J Stordy, Nairobi, to Sir Donald Stewart, dated 24 October 1904, and copy of a letter from A S Flemmer, Nairobi to Mr Stordy, dated 7 October 1904.

A handwritten letter from the Secretary of the Royal Society, to Sir Clement Hill, Foreign Office, dated 5 December 1904, remarking 'please typewrite', regarding the claims of Engelbracht, and refers to the response of members of the Tropical Diseases Committee.
