Title | Copy letter from W C Goodchild, Angorfa, 76 Rhos Road, Colwyn Bay, Denbighshire, to D C [David Christie] Martin, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society, Burlington House, W1 |
Recipient | Martin; Sir; David Christie (1914-1976); British scientific administrator |
Date | 10 May 1947 |
Description | He is sorry to hear of Sir Alfred Egerton's illness. Goodchild explains that he sent his memorandum on 'Coal' because in 1932 he had met Egerton and other members of the Fuel and Water Committee to explain the results of his large scale experiments to improve the combustion of coal in locomotive boilers. The principle he developed is now standard practice on the 'L M S Ry'. He thought Egerton would be interested in Goodchild's latest work dealing with 'a fundamental phenomenon viz. the Earth's Second Rotation, and its effect on Climate Changes and the Formation of Coal'. He notes that copies of this memorandum have been sent to the Astronomer Royal; the Director of the Geological Survey; and Professor D Brunt. |
