TitleLetter from Henry Clifton Sorby, Broomfield, Sheffield, to Sir William Huggins, President of the Royal Society
Date21 October [1904]
DescriptionHe approves of the suggestion from Huggins and will write to Dr. Hicks. Although he wishes the University of Sheffield to have first consideration, he does not wish researches to be carried out there unless they can be done efficiently, and perhaps in connection with the scientific study of iron and steel. He wants funds to be under the control of Council of the Royal Society because this is no new thing, but thought of years ago with Sir George Gabriel Stokes. He wishes he could come to London to discuss it, but has had a series of accidents which prevent it, necessitating him lying in bed as he is not able to walk yet. Dr. Hicks has called and quite understands and agrees with Sorby's ideas.
