| Description | Mahogany armchair, George III, late 18th century, with hoop-shaped leather covered back and stick splats, curved mahogany and brass arm supports, the square tapering legs joined by an H-stretcher. Brass plate screwed to back of chairs reading: "This chair formerly belonged to Sir Isaac Newton and was bequeathed in 1812 to Richard Saumarez [FRS] of Newington in the County of Surrey. Renovated by order of Captain Saumarez in 1849". |
