Description | This volume contains; 1. Marcelli Malpighii Dissertatio Epistolicae de Bombyce (silk worm) - the original manusciript and all the drawings. Dissertatio Epistolica de Formatione Pulli in Ove; with the date at the end, 'Bononiae Calendis Februarii 1672'. This is the original manuscript, with all the drawings. This work was printed in 1672 in quarto, by an order of the Council of the Royal Society, signed 'Brouncker' and dated 12 June 1672 3. All the original drawings of the figures of the 39 Plates of the second part of Malpighius' 'Anatome Plantarum'. Note the manuscipt text of this appears to be lost, for preceding the figures there are inserted three notes on two slips of paper; the first says '12 guards to be left empty here' which has been done evidently for the insertion of the mislaid treatise; and the second, which seems to have enveloped the drawings, says 'The original draughts of the 2nd part of Sig Malpighi's History of Plant'; further, in a different hand, 'The original treatise to which these drawings belong is not to be found 18 May 1734 T.S.'. 4. Marcello Malpighii Epistola de Structura Glandarum Conglobatarum consimilliumque partium. The original manuscript, dated 'Bononiae, 23 Junii 1688'. Note this is the first treatise in the 'Opera Posthuma' of Malpighius, which were published in folio in 1697 by an order of the Council of the Royal Society, signed 'John Hoskyns, V.P.R.S..' and dated 22 July 1696 |
