Title | Letter from Edward Sabine, Limerick to Humphrey Lloyd, Trinity College, Dublin |
Date | 22 December 1834 |
Description | Sabine thanks Lloyd for sending him a letter and part of the Geological Society's Journal through Mr [David] Douglas. Mr [William Francis] Ainsworth has been tasked with making magnetic observations for the Euphrates expedition. Lloyd's 'tried needles' will go with him. Sabine asks if Lloyd could make observations with these needles again, before sending them down to Limerick. Sabine and Mr Ainsworth will make comparative observations in Limerick and latterly in Dublin. This will allow them to draw correct curves of dip for Ireland, such as [Christopher] Hansteen succeeded in doing for Norway and Sweden. |
