Title | Letter from Humphrey Lloyd, Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin to Edward Sabine |
Date | 20 April 1848 |
Description | Lloyd agrees with Sabine’s account of the instrument and observations and remarks that Sabine will get satisfactory values of p and q at the chosen distance, but Lloyd suggests it would be better if the interval of the extreme distances could be greater. Lloyd suggests different distances for the Melville Island observations. Discussion on the true dip. Lloyd discusses observing in the perpendicular plane, and the difficulty [Henry] Barrow has involved Sabine. Lloyd suggests that the deflection should be taken with the needle whose poles have been reversed. |
