Sabine informs Lloyd that he has sent a copy of his latest magnetic papers, though Sabine acknowledges that Lloyd cannot approve them as their views on such matters have settled in opposite directions. Sabine discusses the point Lloyd had difficulty in understanding ten years ago. Sabine refers to the importance of laws and causes of the general distribution of the magnetic influence on the globe and his study on the minor variations. Sabine discusses the Royal Society report of 1840. Discussion on the hypothesis of the direct magnetic action of the lens. Sabine discusses [John] Herschel view regarding sunspots and terrestrial magnetic variations. Sabine refers to [Christopher] Hansteen’s view the ‘Brahminical period had their origin in the cycle of magnetic secular change’.
