| Description | Sabine describes his dip observations in the Regent's Park, London, which, compared to his observations at the same spot in 1821, he believes shows the mean annual decrease of dip in London to amount to 2'.4 [minutes].
Sabine tells Lloyd that [Alexander von] Humboldt is aware of - though does not entirely understand - Lloyd's statical method. It is to be considered a 'great point gained' as Humboldt carries influence on the continent and elsewhere.
Further discussion of their ongoing British magnetic survey. [James Clark] Ross is observing with [Captain Robert] FitzRoy's horizontal needle as all his other needles 'have given in!'. |
