Title | Letter from Edward Sabine, Killarney to Humphrey Lloyd, Trinity College, Dublin |
Date | 5 October 1834 |
Description | Sabine will return to Limerick as soon as possible to finish the series of observations he has been making with Lloyd's variation instrument and needles and will return both immediately. Sabine's own horizontal force needle is currently with [James Clark] Ross in London for comparison. Sabine will transmit further observations of the dip in the south west of Ireland soon. A friend of Sabine's, Captain [Francis Rawdon] Chesney, is to lead an operation to establish steam navigation on the Euphrates. He takes with him two scientific persons. Sabine has offered instruments and training to these individuals so they might make magnetic observations. Sabine has recently received valuable magnetic observations from a friend at the Sandwich Islands [colonial name, now the Hawaiian Islands] |
