Description | Russell informs Lloyd that he sending a lithograph drawing of the Makerstoun observatory [not enclosed]. Russell reports his work to Lloyd regarding the readjustments he made to the instruments at the Makerstoun observatory. Russell discusses the mutual force instrument, and his method to obtain the deviation of the magnetic axis from the line. Russell includes his observations recording the mean of two microscopes, and readings after lifting and lowering the needle. Discussion on the direction of the north pole. Russell gives estimates to the declination of the magnetic meridian. Russell discusses the effects of the magnets on each other by inverting them several times, and records his results of the declination instrument. Discussion on the deviation of the magnetic axes. Russell informs Lloyd he has attached a new suspension thread to the declination apparatus. Russell asks Lloyd for any advice on vertical vibrations. |
