Title | First half of letter from Charles James Buchanan Riddell to Humphrey Lloyd |
Date | 9 June 1841 |
Description | Riddell is sending Lloyd returns from Toronto observatory from 1841, a report on the adjustments and an abstract of observations on temperature corrections with two magnets [not enclosed]. Riddell informs Lloyd that the term day observations have been corrected for temperature.
Two rooms at the repository at Woolwich are to be given over to Riddell. One room will be for an office, the other will house a set of the magnetometers. [William James] Smythe will soon leave for St Helena. Riddell notes that many other officers are going abroad and would benefit from practicing at Woolwich so that they can volunteer their services.
Discussion on preparing returns for printing. There will be no regular series of observations carried out at Woolwich. Riddell recounts visiting Greenwich observatory to see their instruments but was not impressed with their construction.
