| Description | Lloyd updates Riddell on the work being made to gather cooperating stations across the world to be able to make simultaneous measurements of geo magnetism across the globe. Discussion on Lloyd's stay in Berlin and Göttingen, where they saw [Alexander von] Humboldt. Lloyd notes that their main objective is to gather research from Northern Asia. Discussion on cooperation with the Russian government, attending observations from magnetical and meteorological research, and planning under the direction of Mr [Adolph Theodor] Kuppfer. Lloyd informs Riddell on his meeting with Kuppfer in Göttingen. It was decided that there will be four observations in Russia in correspondence with [Saint] Petersburg, [Yekaterinburg] 'Catherineburg', and [Barnaul] 'Barnoul' and Nertschink in Siberia. Discussion on potential cooperation with Brussels, 'Mr Bogolowski' in Breslau and 'Mr [Karl] Kriel' in Prague. Discussion on observatories in India. Lloyd informs Captain [John Theophilus] Boileau, Lieutenant Ludlow and Lieutenant Elliott have left to set up observatories in Simla, Madras [Chennai] and Singapore. Discussion on Mr [John] Caldecott building a meteorological observatory different from the astronomical one. Lloyd mentions [Thiruvananthapuram] Trivandrum as a possible location to set up an observatory in India. Lloyd informs Riddell on recent discussions with the Pacha of Egypt, and his intention to build an observatory on the Island of Boulac near Cairo. Discussion on cooperating stations in the United States, namely Philadelphia. Lloyd informs Riddell on small additions to the magnetometer. |
