| Description | Lloyd discusses difficulties faced by Riddell in funding his observatory [in Toronto]. Lloyd informs Riddell that Edward Sabine has a pair of registering thermometers for him, and they could possibly be used for radiation. Lloyd advises on sealing the tube of the spirit thermometer, to not be concerned with excluding air, but to replace the spirit if it has evaporated. Discussion on the position of the deflecting bar, including a small diagram to illustrate Lloyd's preference. Lloyd informs Riddell that he receive the necessary instructions in the revised edition of the Report of the Physical Committee.
Lloyd's suggestions on the building of the Toronto observatory and placing of the instruments. Includes a small diagram of the principal room with positions of the declination, horizontal force and vertical force magnetometers, with details on the distance and angles. Lloyd informs Riddell that he is about to print his paper on the relative position of three magnets soon and will send a copy, however he thought it best to send these results to Riddell immediately. |
