| Description | Eardley-Wilmot is not pleased with the delays to his observatory, acknowledges that this must be a disappointment to Lloyd and [Edward] Sabine, and feels a loss of the experience that both [John Henry] Lefroy and [Chares James Buchanan] Riddell gained with their temporary observatories.
Eardley-Wilmot describes why the vertical force instrument troubles him, and his neglectful actions which may have caused the instrument to work incorrectly. Eardley-Wilmot requests another apparatus, describing his use of Lloyd’s formula to find the angle L.
Discussion on the levelling of the telescopes of the magnetometer, but not the magnets themselves.
Conducting temperature experiments, Eardley-Wilmot does not see the best method of eliminating declination changes. Describes the inconvenience the dip has caused.
