Description | Monthly report of the superintendents of exploration. Description with size measurements for a large piece of limestone that had fallen from the roof and had to be removed before further excavation. Estimated that it 'weighed nearly 33 tonnes' and had to be 'blast' in five different places. Two spindle whorls of different sizes, and with different ornamentation - 'series of lines, rings, and dots' - were found. More bones, flint, and quartz found - same as previous reports. Although one quartz required further examination: presumed 'quartz and chlorite' and a 'fragment of the metamorphic schist of the southern [angle] of Devonshire'. With a single line tracing of 'a very rude impliment', possibly a flake from another, 'more perfect' tool. |
