DescriptionMonthly report of the superintendents of excavation. In March, progress was made in the Sloping Chamber, in which the slope was at a 20 to 30 degree angle. Mr MacEnery had previously excavated the slope, but he had focused his efforts at the lowest part. During this excavation, they met with MacEnery's previous work and extended the sections. It is reported that Mr MacEnery had found five canines of machairodus in the 'Wolf's Den', which is immediately to the right of the Sloping Chamber, but as yet, they have not found 'a trace of that large Cave Mammal'.

Regarding the layer of deposits in this area, the black mould contained a few bones, shells of cockle and pecten, and various pebbles. The stalagmitic floor contained very few bones and numerous pieces of limestone. In the Cave-Earth, they found pebbles of flint and quartz, faecal matter, bones and fragments of bones, antlers, and many teeth from: hyena, horse, rhinoceros, deer, reindeer, fox, ox, megaceros, elephant, bear, dog (?), lion, and wolf. They also found 21 flint implements and chips.
