Arago was part of the Committee which made the recommendations, the other candidates were [Heinrich] Olbers; [Friedrich] Bessel; Robert Brown; [Johann] Blumenbach, [Samuel Thomas von] Soemering, Leopold de Buch, [John] Dalton and [Giovanni] Plana. Discusses the death of Fresnel the previous month, described as a man of "beautiful talent and beautiful character". |
