Title | Letter from Jean François Dominique Arago to Thomas Young |
Date | 1820s |
Description | No origin listed and no date, addressed to Young in Worthing. Is about to go to Burgundy for a fortnight, but forwards the Connaissance des Temps for 1808, [Charles] Dupin's work and [Edmé-François] Jomard's drawing via Sir Richard Jones. Has received the errata [likely connected to the Bureau des Longitudes], notes that he cannot see where the error related to the distance to the moon comes from, as the printed and mss notes from the computers are as expected. Will send the Connaissance des Temps for 1821 in a few days, but the publication is delayed to allow some additions. As a postscriptum, states that he hopes to corroborate the phenomenon observed by Young in Worthing, a well-studied young man of the name of Valenciennes observed it in Paris but cannot recall the exact day and time. |
