TitleLetter from Pieter Adrian Bergsma, Utrecht to Edward Sabine
Date3 March 1861
DescriptionSabine enquires why Bergsma cannot send his Fox circle backwards to Holland. Bergsma informs Sabine that as his Fox circle is owned by the colonial government, he is not at liberty to dispose of it as he pleases and therefore desired to have another Fox circle for the sole purpose of being sent forwards and backwards between Holland and Java. Bergsma notes if the Committee [for promoting researches at sea] at Rotterdam had agreed with his idea this would have exerted greater influence. However now Bergsma is compelled to take observations with his Fox circle on his journey to Java, and id successful will try again to create interest of this endeavour in other people.
