TitleLetter from Viscount Adare, Paris to Edward Sabine
Date23 February 1835
DescriptionAdare expresses his delight at the prospect of Sabine visiting them in Paris with Mrs Sabine. Reference to [Jean-Baptiste] Élie de Beaumont and his agreement with [Thomas] Weaver, Beaumont draws his conclusions by comparing Weaver’s descriptions with his own observations in France. Adare will remain in France a month longer, then spend April in London. Adare is unable to answer Sabine’s question regarding [Claude-Louis] Mathieu. Adare was invited by [Alexis] Bouvard to visit the [Paris Observatory], where he was shown their instruments, but did not see or hear of [Claude-Louis] Mathieu.

Adare refers to Sabine’s enquiry about Miss [Augusta Charlotte] Goold [Adare’s wife] who is still in Lissadell, and expresses his hope that Mrs Sabine will write to Goold.

Adare refers to a grand dinner hosted by Lord Headley lasting three hours. Reference to an officer of the Euphrates expedition who saved a man’s life after falling into the sea.
