TitleLetter from Joseph Bolzani, Kazan to Edward Sabine
Date19th century
DescriptionBolzani updates Sabine regarding the establishment of a magnetic observatory in Kazan with self-recording instruments. Refers to observations near Kazan that could potentially turn into a magnetic survey of eastern Russia. Bolzani would like an apparatus to measure the whole force, and has requested Mr Balfour Stewart to order such an instrument for the [University of Kazan], and asks Sabine to examine this instrument before it leaves London. Bolzani asks Sabine if the Royal Society regularly receives a scientific paper published by his university. Reference to a paper in the Philosophical [Transactions] by Mr [Arthur] Cayley regarding imaginary geometry.
