Part of the Kew Observatory project to capture daily images of the sun and track sun-spots over time, using the photoheliograph built for this purpose by Warren de la Rue. This pursuit was first suggested by Sir Jon Herschel and executed by Warren de la Rue from February 1862 to late January 1871. During this time he took 2778 pictures of the sun on 1724 days.
