Description | Library lending book volume 3. The manuscript records the following information in columns: date borrowed, title of book, name of borrower which appears as a signature written in the borrrower's hand, and a notation that the book has been returned - recorded as 'Ret'd'.
The borrowers of the books were Fellows of the Royal Society, the general public did not have access to the library during this period unless given special permission. Borrowers listed include: Thomas Henry Huxley, George Gabriel Stokes, Charles Darwin, Sir Charles Lyell, J P Gassiot, James Clerk Maxwell, Edward Sabine. |

PhysicalDescription | Phase boxed volume. Volume bound in brown leather with brown leather label on front cover embossed with the following title 'books borrowed out of the Royal Society library.' The label and binding are both heavily worn. The binding is suffering from leather rot but is otherwise sound. Marbled endpapers. |
