TitleCopy letter, F [Francis] Baily, Royal Society, to C [Charles] Few
CreatorBaily; Francis (1774-1844); British stockbroker and astronomer
RecipientFew; Charles ( - ); British solicitor
Date9 February 1838
DescriptionThe printer Mr Taylor of Red Lion Court has been under the impression that title deeds for houses in Crane Court which he is negotiating for were with the Royal Society, although the property is long disposed of. He has asked to inspect the deeds, which Council has granted permission for, if Few is present to superintend matters and has been consulted as to the propriety of this action. The Society is not to incur any expense in the proceedings. He thinks that all deeds are deposited at the bankers, Sir J Lubbock Bart & Company, and Mr [John William] Lubbock will be able to help Few. Baily notes that the premises were purchased by the Society around 1710 and he has found a minute relating to the deeds in 1723, but thinks that they must have been given up when sold in 1782.
