CreatorLubbock; Sir John William; third baronet (1803-1865); British astronomer and banker
RecipientJenkins; Sir Richard (1785-1853); British East India Company servant
Date29 June 1839
DescriptionProfessor [Humphrey] Lloyd will be prepared to receive the three officers of the Engineers at Dublin, to instruct them in the use of magnetic instruments. The instruments should be ready in October, after which no time should be lost in their proceeding to India. Council recommend that the fixed observatories should be provided with thermometers for solar and terrestrial radiation. There are two or three pendulums in India at present and it would be desirable to make observations in the Himalayas, and at convenient points in the Trigonometrical Survey stations in India. Afterwards, the instruments should be returned to England for comparison. He hopes the recommendations will find favour with the Board of Directors.
