DescriptionIn the absence of the President, he communicates on the possibility of accident to the magnetic apparatus during the long and arduous voyage. Understanding that only one ship has been furnished with instruments, the committee considers it essential that another full set of instruments is supplied, capable of independent observation if the ships part company. The Van Diemen's Land observatory instruments will be paid for by the Admiralty and Lubbock notes in a postscript that the ships' magnetometers will also be authorised by the Admiralty.
