DescriptionReferring back to the President's letter of 20 January, in consequence of new circumstances, he wishes the matter of the Hammerfest Observatory to remain as it did when they met. Council are anxious that Lord Palmerston's influence should be used with the Swedish Government to procure a magnetic observatory furnished with the best instruments. This would aid in the extended plan now in operation across the world. He forwards a copy of the report on the subject and a copy of the 20 January letter.
