TitleCopy letter from Walter White, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society, B H [Burlington House], to Reverend C W [Charles William] Knyvett
CreatorWhite; Walter (1811-1893); British librarian and writer
Date15 May 1868
DescriptionIn response to Knyvett's offer to present a portrait of Dr [James] Jurin to the Royal Society. White assures Knyvett that if accepted, the portrait will be properly labelled and the name of the donor would be printed in the annual list of the presents made to the Society and in a new edition of the Society's 'Catalogue of Portraits'. White clarifies, however, that the Society do not have it in their power 'to promote the welfare, or widen the social prospects of individuals. Their special is object is the advancement of science, and any respectable person who takes interest therein is always welcome at their evening meetings'.
