| Description | Concerning the expenses of the publication of the [magnetic] observations made by Captain Maguire, and the decision of the Treasury that the £1000 Grant should cover it, replies to correct a misunderstanding. Argues that a reimbursement from the government is not sort solely because tables were included in the 'Philosophical Transactions', but because of the global advantage for the preservation of the observations. States the Royal Society cannot shoulder the expenses with the contributions of the Fellows alone. As for the Government Grant, which has been voted by the government for the past few years, reminds the first Lord of the Treasury that the conditions of the grant is to be used to defray expense on existing experiments, and to publish papers in other publications other than 'Transactions'. |
