Title | Copy letter from Edward Sabine, President of the Royal Society, B H [Burlington House], to Sir Frederic Rogers, Downing Street |
Creator | Sabine; Sir Edward (1788-1883); Irish army officer and physicist |
Recipient | Rogers; Sir Frederic (1811-1889); British civil servant |
Date | 26 January 1865 |
Description | Responds to a request as to the suitability of [Charles] Meldrum for the role of 'Director of the (proposed) Meteorological and Magnetical Observatory' in Mauritius. Sabine comments on Meldrum's deep interest in the topics and his aim of gaining practical experience at the Observatory at Kew. Sabine then recommends improving the efficiency of the project by implementing a photographic barograph 'such as the one at Kew' instead of the current method of 'hourly observations of the magnetic elements'. He also discusses the ideal conditions of the room in which this will take place. |
