TitleCopy of a letter From M [Sir Michael] Foster and A W [Arthur William] Rucker, The Royal Society, Burlington House, to [Sir Clements Markham]
Date7 June 1901
DescriptionConcerning the resignation of Professor [John Walter] Gregory from his role as Director of the Civilian Scientific Staff of the National Antarctic Expedition. The letter suggests appointing [George] Murray, currently Deputy-Director, to the role of Director, in order to avoid an undesirable delay. Murray intends to travel as far as Melbourne with the Expedition, and would not proceed with the ship to the ice. If the proposal is accepted, the Instructions drawn up for the position should be amended to reflect the changed conditions.
