TitleLetter from Edward B [Bagnall] Poulton and T H [Thomas Henry] Tizard to Sir M [Michael] Foster and Professor [Arthus William] Rucker, Joint Secretaries of the Royal Society
Date10 June 1901
DescriptionConcerning the letter of 7 June [see MS/547/10/7], they have no objection to the appointment of Dr G [George] Murray as Director, but regret the proposal to send the 'Discovery' into the Antarctic ice without a Scientific Director on board. If appointing a new scientific leader is impossible, a well-trained naturalist should at least be appointed in his stead. Complains about the lack of transparency and contact with the Committee of Six concerning the instructions. They have also not been given an opportunity to explain the proposed landing party to the Committee.
