TitleLetter from Arthur W Rucker, 19 Gledhow Gardens, to [Alfred Bray] Kempe
CreatorRucker; Sir; Arthur William (1848-1915); British physicist
Date25 July 1901
DescriptionEncloses a cheque for £2-16-6. Rucker met with [William] Shackleton, who told him that [John Walter] Gregory said they must "fight for science". Shackleton should be meeting with [Robert Falcon] Scott and [George] Murray today. Scott has been warned of the importance of the physical work, but he has discretion as to who should go on the expedition. Rucker has told Shackleton to make his case to Scott, but suggested he should not make a scene if he is denied. 'To be left behind on account of his teeth would do him no harm; to be left for other reasons would put a black mark against him'.
