Title | Letter from [William] Shackleton, 14 Bettridge Road, Parsons Green, to Professor [Arthur] Rucker |
Creator | Shackleton; William (1871-1921); physicist |
Date | 25 July 1901 |
Description | [George] Murray has informed him that the post has been offered to [Louis] Bernacchi. Shackleton believes his dismissal is hypocritical, and encloses copies of two certificates regarding his teeth. He was the first officer to have his teeth examined, and had informed Dr [Reginald] Koettlitz that he had arranged to visit his dentist. As far as he is aware no other officers have had their teeth examined, and he has been passed by the Admiralty doctor. Shackleton is on friendly terms with Bernacchi and the magnetic work will be in good hands, though Shackleton does not think he will be able to operate the 'Eschenhagen instuments', or carry out the seismography and sea-water work, without instruction. |
