TitleLetter from William Huggins to A B Kempe
Date27 March 1903
DescriptionMarked 'Quite Private'
Sends Kempe the enclosed letter and two enclosures from Markham. It is satisfactory that the Discovery is safe and has done good work. Were their instructions to Scott clear and definite that he was not to remain a second year, unless unable to extricate himself from the ice? He suspected all along that Scott had secret instructions from Markham to remain a second year, notwithstanding official instructions to the contrary. Is the Royal Society jointly responsible with the Royal Geographical Society for the additional £15,000?
